Gwangju Biennale

Since its foundation in 1995, the Gwangju Biennale has developend into a prestigious exhibition of contemporary art. This year director Massimiliano Gioni will create an exhibition under the title of "10,000 lives” that deals with the abundance of images we are facing today.

The May 18 Memorial Foundation

A foundation in the memory of the democratic uprising that took place in Gwangju in 1980. The foundation has the goal to keep the memory and spirit alive of those who died in the struggle for democracy. For this purpose the organize a large variety of events every year.

Gwangju International Center

Gwangju International Center (GIC) was established in 1999 as a non-profit and non-governmental organization. The initiative came from an alliance of Gwangju Citizen and the government of Gwangju. Since 1999 GIC is promoting mutual intercultural understanding and non-governmental interchange for the local and foreign community.

Daein Art Martket Project

This project was started in 2009 as part of the 7th Gwangju biennale. Using the growing empty spaces in the traditional korean Daein market this open public project brought together the hard working market people and the local art scene to bring back life to the dying Daein market.

Gwangju Museum of Art

Gwangju Museum of Art is the leading Museum for contemporary art in Gwangju. It features several national and international exhibitions every year and also offers art education projects for children.

Art Gwangju 2010 is the focal point of the 21st century Asia Arts Market. Gwangju, widely anticipated to play a central role in the development of the cultural belt of the Pacific region, is well known to the world as a city of the Biennale. Now, the city once again opens its doors to its visitors, by hosting Art Gwangju 2010, with the objective to offer a springboard to the Arts Market.
